I then received a phonecall telling me that no face to face assessment was needed and they would do a paper-based assessment. (I cried with relief).
The lesson here is if you have to challenge ATOS about assessments- ask them if the evidence is all there on the screen. I had asked but taken it at face value when I was told they didn't know. This was unture, but what was clear is the form was scanned one week and it was about two weeks later the rest of my evidence was scanned into the system
Result: Last week we heard, he has been awarded enhanced rate for care and mobility. Also lucky that it is an ongoing award which I know is rare.

I cannot express enough thanks to this site for the information and help. I went through the PIP advice guiet over and over again and he scored 23 and 22 (12 needed for enhanced rate). I could not have done this without this site. And special thanks to Gordon for sound advice when I was almost at breaking point.

Congratulations on the award and thank you for your comments.
The DWP scan the PIP2 and attached documents on receipt, it's obviously possible for the two to become separated at this point but it should not happen, your recommendation that members ask Assessment Provider to confirm that they have all their evidence is a good one that we'll try and use on future posts.

I have typed out on my computer the responces to the various questions to be completed in the extra information boxes.
Is it acceptable for me to glue my responces into this space to save me having to write it out longhand and having to add and attach extra sheets? My writing in nearly indisiferable so I thought this might help with the assessment being able to read it ?
Many thanks,

You can providing it will fit. The form is scanned by the DWP when they receive it, so just be careful to ensure that you will not cause problems with this process.
