I wanted advise on going abroad when you are on ESA and claiming Carers allowance.
My maternal grandfather who resides in Asia has suddenly fallen critically ill and is in hospital. Doctors have informed us that he can pass away any time soon. My distraught mother who is the main carer for my father and in a joint ESA with him, really wants to go abroad to see her father for final time incase he doesn't pull through.
However she is worried that hers and my fathers benefit will be affected. Myself and my siblings will work out a schedule to take care of my dad in turns to replace mum in the mean time.
what we want to know is if my mother needs to inform anyone about her leave for around 2-3weeks as she is receiving ESA and CA.
She can leave the country for up to four weeks without it effecting your mother's ESA, she really needs to notify the DWP of this and importantly, when she returns. See
