My husband has just been diagnosed with cancer and is only on a 10 hour contract but will be off for treatment. ..what sort of help can he apply for...thank you

He may be able to claim ESA is his GP will issue a Fit Note but it may depend on your circumstances as he does not appear to earn enough to claim Contribution Based ESA.

Although he has a 10 hour contract he works 40+ hours does that make a difference. .and what is a fitnote please?

A Fit Note is what is used to be called a Sick Note, it certifies the person as being Unfit for Work (in simple terms).
The issue for ESA(CB) is that he has sufficient NI Contributions, he will need to check his payslips to see whether he has been paying National Insurance, if he hasn't then he will only be able to claim ESA(IR).
