Turned down on mobility needs

Turned down on mobility needs was created by Neckender
My wife has been awarded standard rate for living needs and turned down on the mobility needs.
She was originally given the mobility and living needs in 2004 indefinitely, she had her face to face last month and she told the assessor that she couldn't walk farther than 20 metres and used a walking stick and when really off used her mobility scooter.
The assessor asked if my wife could walk around a small super market and my wife said she could with her walking stick but plenty of rest stops and me supporting her and again if really off she would use her mobility scooter.
So they have decided that she can walk 50 metres but no more than 200 metres which is absurd.
My wife told the assessor that I prepare and cut food as she is unable to, also that my wife cannot open medication bottles and tablet blisters or any kind of stoppers or food cans, but nothing awarded for this.
They have said that my wife was able to maintain pinch and power grips using both hands and can manage this activity unaided for the majority of the time.
The assessor also said that it was evident that my wife was in pain whilst seated, but that my wife only took moderate pain relief, the reason was told to the assessor that in the past the medication had caused problems with my wife's liver function.
Washing and bathing they were told that I have to assist my wife with this function but not awarded any points for this.
They were told that I help my wife to dress but again nothing awarded for this.
We are concerned about loosing her blue badge because my wife can't get in or out of the car if we can't open the door fully like you can in a disabled parking space.
Tomorrow my wife will phone to ask for the mandatory consideration.

Is there any other thing that we should do.

Regards,
John.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.
