ESA Assessment Phase: payment? was created by MsJane
Hi!
I've tried googling but am getting muddled so thought I would best ask here instead. At what point in the ESA application process do you start to receive assessment phase rate money?
Is it after you've sent the ESA50? Or should I be receiving it already now that I've been sent an ESA50 to fill in?
I'm just worrying because the little savings I had for this situation are nearly gone

Hi MsJane,
How long ago did you phone to initiate the claim?
Payment should start once the claim has been accepted. This is usually quite quick, certainly within a couple of weeks.
If it has been longer than a couple of weeks since you initiated your claim, I suggest you contact DWP.
May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your ESA without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too

Thank you for the reply!
I didn't phone to begin it because of medical issues, I printed it and sent it off. I had someone speak to them the other day and they said they've received it and to expect a letter any day this week. I did get a letter today with an ESA50 form to fill in but no mention of any payments. Is this the point where my claim has been accepted? Or does that come at the next stage when my ESA50 is received by them?
It's so confusing :/

If you have received an ESA50 to complete then I would expect your ESA to be in payment, you need to contact the DWP to find out what is preventing this. Do you have a current Fit Note on file with the DWP?
ESA: 0345 608 8545 Press Option 3 for ESA. (Open 8AM-6PM. Mon-Fri.)
