Strange Letter was created by JLP
Hi guys,
A brown envelope arrived today. I thought oh know its my assessment for ESA. Its overdue by at least a year. I am on ESA and in the support group.
I opended it and the letter heading is "your claim for ESA a change in the employment and support allowance rate payable"
When I looked further, the money is exactly the same as I'm getting now. Any idea what this letter means?
My husband says it means you have been re assessed and it means you wont have to go to another medical. I don't think hes right. I'm to scared to phone the DWP in case I open a can of worms!
Does anyone know? any help would be appreciated. many thanks

It sounds like the ESA annual entitlement letter, but the only way you will know for certain is to contact the DWP office dealing with your claim.

Hi JLP,
My partner had a similar letter & I thought the same, but upon further inspection I noticed the 95p rise about half way down the page.
Before opening I thought it was the PIP results we were expecting, I'm sure they do this purposely, the swines!

Today we've had yet another strange letter regarding ESA. It says ESA is £208.25, the rise means it goes up to £209.20, then your ESA will be £334.10 from 20 April!!!! This cannot be right surely, a rise of £124.90?

£124.90 is the couples rate for the Severe Disability Premium.

Thanks Gordon. Gosh we knew nothing about this & thought that someone had made a big mistake
I've had a look at this SDP & sort of understand a bit of it, but am puzzled by the CA bit. My partner got the underlying carers for me when I got my PIP award, so will the CA stop now we get this SDP? Also do we inform housing & CT about this change like we did with the CA? Thanks very much for answering my many questions.
