Are the DWP contacting claimants by phone now? was created by Mesozoic
I've had 3 phone calls over the past 6 days from someone claiming to be from the DWP, asking to talk to me about various allowances. First time it was about Job Seekers and I said I couldn't help, second it was just about allowances and third time it was about ESA. As I've always been contacted by post I assumed these were scam calls! This morning I got a letter asking me about pension details (I sent back my pension provider's contact details six weeks ago). They wanted to know in detail about my pension so called the provider and was told they would send me a letter to forward to the DWP in about 5 to 10 working days. The trouble with this is that the DWP want the info. by 26th June! Could those phone calls have been anything to do with this and am I likely to be sanctioned if the information is late? I've been sending the DWP my pension provider's address and telephone number now for several years and this is the first time anything like this has happened! Does anyone know what's going on?

You need to manage the situation, so contact the ESA office dealing with your claim and explain that you have contacted your pension provider but it will take time for them to respond.
The DWP can suspend your payments if they do not receive the information on time but you should be able to avoid this by keeping them informed.
As to what is going on, it depends on your ESA, if you have any ESA(IR) element then it will be affected £ for £, if it is ESA(CB) then there is an £85 disregard followed by a deduction, it could be that you crossed a limit and therefore your ESA will be affected differently from before.
