ESA3 was created by eyesnlegs
Can anyone help please? I have been on ESA Contribution based since 2012. I was sent a reassessment for ESA in January this year (2017). I have heard nothing since then and didn't ring as I didn't want to trigger anything.

Today I've been sent a form ESA3 and it says that I have been placed in the support group but have not made a claim for income related ESA. It goes on to say if you decide to claim income related ESA you may be entitled to more money. Well no I won't as I have a small company pension and I've paid 41 years NI contributions. Plus if I'm in the support group why are they asking me this? It asks me to complete the form if I wish to claim IR ESA. The reference on the letter begins ESACHANGES.

Questions are: do I ring them and ask them if it's been sent as a mistake? Is this a trick? Is there something else going on I know nothing about?

I haven't informed of any changes but my progressive illness has progressed since my first claim and would have been reflected in my January application.

Thanks

The first thing to say is that this is not anything to worry about.

Having been placed in the Support Group you are also entitled to payment of the Enhanced Disability Premium, if you are also entitled to Income Related ESA, the ESA3 form captures the information need to see whether you are or not.

Your pension may prevent this as it will be deducted £ for £ from any ESA(IR) payments that you receive. The Premium is about £16 per week is you are single and £23 if you are part of a couple. Being entitled to any amount of ESA(IR) also entitles you to free prescriptions and dental care and should mean that you also receive full Housing Benefit if applicable.

If you don't think that you will qualify then don't complete the form.
