My PIP award expires in January 2018 and I've been sent a letter inviting me to claim for PIP again. I've phoned the 0800 number given on the letter twice and spoken to different people whilst trying to request a paper form to be sent out to me. I mentioned the AR1 form but they didn't know what that was. They were quite insistent that I completed a PIP1 form over the phone. On both occasions I declined as I don't have the energy to carry out a 15 min phone call.
On my third attempt I called the 0345 number and managed to speak to someone more knowledgeable. They said that I wouldn't get an AR1 form as my PIP was for a fixed period of time and that I would need to re-apply. They also agreed to send out a paper PIP1 form to me without any pressure being placed on me to fill in the form over the phone.
Based on my experience, if you want a paper PIP1 form to fill in, then don't bother with the 0800 number as they are pretty fixed in their procedures/process. Give the 0345 number a go instead. At least that way you will have a copy of you completed PIP1 for your records.
