Hello I attended as appointee for my sons pip appeal today as he just didn’t want to go and has social anxiety but because he has managed to get a part time job in a hospital even though he won’t mix with others they made it clear they couldn’t make a decision without seeing him. I fully understand and appreciate this however I also have a problem in that he doesn’t like to discuss his epilepsy and dyslexia and when asked about them he’s likely to say I’m fine and won’t admit he needs help.
They said they could make a decision but seeing him in person would make a difference but if I can’t persuade him will he definitely loose because of it they said they have masses of evidence from GP and myself sorry I’m stressed with this now. Thank you for advice

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

I think that this is a bit of Catch 22, all you can do is push him to attend and see what happens.
If you have provided a detailed explanation of his problems with evidence to support it the it should be possible for the panel to discern the difference in his testimony from the evidence.
Does any of the information you have supplied refer to his problems understanding his conditions, medical support for this would definitely help.

Thank you Gordon the problem I have is because he has done so well academically despite his disability all be it with one to o e support and it’s tKen him longer to achieve this I don’t know if they realise the impact on him and the family and he won’t admit he has the seizures as he has no recollection.
I will do as you say and hope for the best he has already lost his award so we can’t lose anything else.

You have two options;
- You can contact the Judge to ask permission to attend without your son, you will need to explain your reasons for the request, or
- You can switch to a Paper hearing, just make sure that all of the papers you want the panel to look at are with the TS before you change the hearing as you will not be notified about when they will look at his appeal, just send you the result.
