Hello all

I'm in my late 50s, currently getting Income-Related ESA for long-term mental health issues, and I'm living in a house wholly owned (no mortgage) by my long-term separated wife (amicable separation, but no plans to get back together).

She would like to transfer the house into my name so that I have the security of a place to live regardless of what happens to her assets (for example, if she has to go into care).

If she does this, and the house becomes mine, how will that affect my entitlement to the ESA? Likewise for Council Tax Reduction?

As it is the house you are living in then it should have no impact on your ESA or Council Tax, however, I would still get face to face advice before this is done to ensure there are no other issues. Do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.
