Fined for going to the dentist on ESA was created by Donna colton
Hello I was put in the support group for 4 years didn't ask any question I had depression and anxiety and stress.
I thought that I got free bus prescriptions and dental treatment.
Help me understand please.
I have now got a full time job signed myself off benefits.
And I have just been fined £100 for a £20 dental treatment that I thought I received for free as I was on Esa.
I am ringing them up tommorow to find out of I was on contributions or income related.
Whilst I claimed £125 per week I never claimed pip or had any savings.
So I cannot see how I didn't qualify for free bus dental treatment.
I'm writing this so it didn't happen to anyone else. I never realised and hope that I don't get a bill for £1000 over 4 years worth of treatment.
I could barely live on £500 a month as it was.
Please help me understand. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
If your ESA payments are £125.55 then this would suggest you are receiving the Enhanced Disability Premium, it appears as the Disability Income Guarantee on your ESA Entitlement letter.
If this is the case the you are either receiving Income Related ESA or Contribution Based ESA with an ESA(IR) top-up as the ED Premium is only paid if you are receiving ESA(IR).
If you are receiving ESA(IR) then you are entitled to free dental treatment, although you should be aware that not all treatment comes under this banner.
I am guessing that you did not include your National Insurance Number on the waiver and this is why you have been fined.
There should be a form with the fine asking for your details so that they can check that you are receiving ESA(IR).
