PIP descriptor 1/ Preparing Food - Aid/appliance was created by UncleBuck
I am aplying for PIP soon, and I have a important query regarding the PIP Descriptor: 1/ Preparing Food.
PIP Descriptors
1.Preparing Food
b. Needs to use an aid or appliance to be able to
either prepare or cook a simple meal. 2 Points
I suffers from COPD, which causes breathing limitations, and cannot use a conventional cooker because the heat, fumes and smoke from a cooking hob/oven make my breathing problems worse, which means a conventional cooker is not safe for me to use. So instead, I use a Halogen Oven (which keeps most of the heat, fumes, smoke, etc, confined within it's glass bowl).
Now I realize people without disabilities also use Halogen ovens, and they are not specifically designed to be used by disabled people, but I specifically use one as a substitute for the conventional cooker, so do need to be using one due to disability and not just for convenience.
So as far as my COPD circumstances are concerned, can the Halogen count as being an aid/appliance, as it would appear to come under the description: ‘any device which improves, provides or replaces [the claimant’s] impaired physical or mental function’ ?
Thanks

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

littletiki
All you can do is make your arguments, I would concentrate on your problems with using a standard hob rather than the halogen oven, my guess is that they will more likely score you for Descriptor (c) and using a microwave.
