Following on from my original post can the DWP actually down grade your claim again if you ask for mandatory reconsideration. Has anyone experienced this and can this actually happen. What are the risks. Also if it does fail how long before you can try again.

For an MR the DWP will review the whole award, this means that there is a possibility that points can be removed and this can lead to the award being reduced or even removed.
It's now quite rare for this to happen but we still see it, I can't quantify the risk but it something you need to consider. Obviously, if you have scored 11 points then a Standard award is likely to be more secure than if you only scored the minimum 8 points.
You also need to consider whether you can reasonably score the extra points for a higher award, needing one, or more likely two points for an Enhanced award will likely be easier than needing four points, as will having strong evidence for the missing points versus a weak argument.
