Pip Assesment for a 17 year old was created by Sharron Martin
Hi, I have only just joined BW and akready I am finding answers to a lot of questions that I have.
I have a son who is just 17 years old with a 99% probability of ASD as per his consultant Peadiatrician. I also have a daughter who has Downs Syndrome, ASD and many many health problems which requires 1:1 support. When my son was given his possible diagnosis he was very unhappy and refuses to accept this which meant when we attended a medical assesment just over a week ago they have scored zero on everything as he refuses to accept he has these problems as a result of ASD. His fears are that people will assume if he has ASD like his sister then he must be like his sister, we have tried explaining to him about the spectrum and that he is totally different to his sister, but I am now left with an issue whether its worth persuing an appeal as he did exactly what we expected in the medical and said he can do everything and has no problems doing anything which is totally incorrect. Please can you offer some advice as I have only 2 weeks to do an appeal and I'm not sure whether its worth it. Many Thanks Sharron x

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

PIP is not awarded for a condition so the lack of a formal diagnosis is not crucial but it certainly won't help.

What did you expect to score for and why?

Did you have any evidence other than your own testimony to support these problems?
