Can i make a claim for being a carer? was created by fastmoggy
Scenario > I work a 12 hour shift with a break half way through the day so I can get home to help the wife to get out the house as she cannot without help and do some cooking and cleaning. my breaks average 3.8 hours a day over 5 days plus when I get home im doing similar activities to help the wife.
Is there a possibility I could try and claim a carers allowance?

I am sorry, wish I could say yes- both on the hours and possibly the salary
anyway this is the criteria

Not every carer can get this benefit. You may be eligible for Carer's Allowance if you meet all the following conditions:

you look after someone who gets a qualifying disability benefit[PIP/DLA]
you look after that person for at least 35 hours a week
you are aged 16 or over
you are not in full-time education
you don’t earn over £120 a week (after deductions)
you satisfy UK presence and residence conditions

Got 4 out of 6 but do earn more than the maximum permitted! but you correctly identified the two that prevent me from claiming. Thanks for the info

Add to the list that you can also claim CA if the disabled/sick person receives either rate of Attendance allowance and Armed Forces Independence Payment

A carer cannot usually be paid Carer’s Allowance if you receive one or more of the following benefits:

State Pension
contributory Employment and Support Allowance
Incapacity Benefit
Maternity Allowance
Bereavement or widow’s benefits
Severe Disablement Allowance
contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

Carer’s Allowance is taxable
