help needed changing esa medical date was created by crowie53
I’m my brothers carer who has learning difficulties, and he has been given a date for his medical for the 11th April but I can’t take him, as I will be in Australia for 6 weeks . I rang Maximus to see if I could cancel and rearrange an appointment for him when I return on the 9th May, but they said that they couldn’t keep his file until then it would have to go back to DWP, and they didn’t have an earlier appointment to offer me before I went away. Do Maximus have a time frame to work to or were they being unhelpful.? If I can’t get someone else to take him, would that be a valid reason for not getting his benefit stopped for non attendance.

They are charged by the DWP to carry out an assessment at the earliest date, whilst they should make reasonable accommodations to allow you to attend with your brother your problems is that their systems only show the next three, maybe four weeks of appointments and certainly don't extend to the 9th of May.
Two options;
- Contact your brother's MP to see if they can get them to accommodate the situation
Contacting your MP
- As long as this is the first appointment then your brother has received then he could cancel on 9 or 10 April and attempt to arrange a second appointment for when you are back.

if my daughter rings to cancel on the 9th does my brother need to be with her to confirm the cancellation.

It might not be necessary but neither you nor your daughter have authority to act on behalf of your brother, so I would do it with him to avoid complications.

hi there, I cancelled my brothers Esa medical appointment for the 11th April, on the 10th April. However they have not yet sent out a new appointment. Do I just wait for them to get in touch or do I need to ring them.Thanks

As long as you are happy that you would receive any appointment letter then you do not need to contact Maximus, there are delays in the ESA assessment process so it could be some time.
