claiming pip and carers allowance was created by reds123
i am currently on esa support group and pip standard care and my wife claims carers allowance being my full time carer, she now has got to the stage where her own illness ie degeneration of lumber spine, osteoarthritis, neuropathic pain, lumber disk bulge, is causing her to struggle doing everyday tasks so she is considering making a claim for pip, would she be allowed to make this claim even though she is my carer and gets carers allowance or will she need to stop being my carer ?

Hi British Bulldog

Receiving Carers Allowance and PIP is not a specific problem unless it directly contradicts the reasons someone is claiming PIP for in the first place.

If your wife does put in a claim and she has a face to face assessment she should be prepared to answer questions about the care she gives, especially in regard to areas that she has problems with in regard to her PIP claim, so that she can still provide the 35 hours of care a week that is required for her to receive Carers Allowance. (It is not a given that it is brought up, but it is always best to be prepared).
