Please can you advise under what circumstances if any would a ESA permitted work application trigger being forced to apply for universal credit with no protection given from a managed migration? My son lives in a fully live universal credit area and is currently in receipt of Income related ESA in the support group and he has a number of disabilities.

Many thanks for your help with this

Starting or stopping Permitted Work is not a trigger for transfer to UC.

There is a guide to UC in the ESA area.

Thank you Gordon, extremely helpful,

I understand there is no permitted work allowance under UC, but If you have ESA permitted work allowed and are earning up to £131.50 pw at the time that the DWP require you to apply for UC as a managed migration, will your existing permitted work allowance also be protected by managed migration or will this be lost under UC?

Thanks again for your help

I don't believe that your earnings under PW will be protected when migrated to UC but that would be because you would likely be able to work the same hours without it affecting your UC as you may be entitled to a Work Allowance.
