Severe disability premium was created by JJ
Hi Team.
Could you please advise on who would be entitled to severe disability premium ?
I understand this can be a top up for esa claimants.
Would it apply for someone who is in receipt of esa IR in support group. (With chronic conditions) With higher level mobility & standard rate care ?
Thank you.

To receive any of the Premiums you need to be receiving or entitled to receive with a Premium added a means-tested benefit such as Income Related ESA or Income Support but not Universal Credit.

To be entitled to the Severe Disability Premium you need to meet all of the following;

- You must be receiving a qualifying benefit such as DLA MRC or HRC or PIP Daily Living (there are others).
- No one must be receiving Carers Allowance against the qualifying benefit
- You must live alone or be considered to be living alone.
