If claimants are receiving non - means tested benefits do they have to inform DWP about any potential increase in savings through inheritance, if it were to take them over the 16k threshold?
I have read conflicting reports online on the correct procedure, know everyone is really busy on here so only ask when necessary.
If reporting is required by law, are there any template letters available for making contact?

If you are only receiving non-means tested benefits such as ESA(CB), or PIP or DLA then you do not need to inform the DWP of any change in your savings but if you are receiving any Income Related benefits, even if only 1p, such as ESA(IR), or Universal Credit or Housing Benefit, then you do.

Thank you Gordon,
Benefits are (esa cb) with a 20p top up transfer from IB - pip & ca.
Currently have a small ct rebate and a help with nhs certificate which I understand are 2 bodies that will need to be informed, is this correct?

There may be circumstances that you have not mentioned that would affect any ESA(IR) you might be paid but based on your post I would expect about £40/week to be payable; the Enhanced Disability Premium and the Carers Premium.
You can put your information into one of the online benefit calculators.

As long as ESA (CB) PIP & CA are not means tested and the dwp do not need to be informed that is what we needed to know.
As stated we get help with Council Tax & NHS certificate so I take it they will need to be informed as savings do come in to account with them, means tested or not?

Sorry, yes you need to inform your Local Authority and if the MHS certificate is based on low income they will need to be informed as well.
