Yes sorry, whoever retains the claim will need to add the other to their ESA claim.
Whether the person who closes their claim would receive a pension and how much would depend on the number of years that they had received NICs from working and NI Credits from ESA.
There are several options for securing a State pension;
- they could purchase Class 4 Credits each year
- they could claim the Carers Credit as long as they are able to provide 20 hours a week of care for the other person, this would not affect the other benefits being paid
- or they could claim Carers Allowance, but this will prevent one of the SD Premiums being paid although a Carers Premium will be added in its place.

Hi just an update I contacted dwp and told them my partner would be the main claimant if I move to be honest when I tried to explain she can't claim universal credit because of legacy benefits.and barred from claiming it.they didn't grasp what I was saying.said something about her having to fill a esa 3 form in.would that be right? Because they don't seem to understand that I would be on her claim but unable to work and the 2 sdp premium.and me being in support group..they have confused me.
Any help would be appreciated. If this is the right form.
Thanks

Yes, it is normal for an ESA3 to be issued. The form covers you and your partner's finances, remember, everything will now be looked at as a total of both savings and assets. there's a sample ESA3 on the following that you can have a look at.

Your partner needs to be running this process, you are being added to their claim and you cannot act on their behalf.

This form is not in the public domain so the copy I have got is old, PIP may well be included on the current one but if not then yes, add it.
Yes, once you have a date to be included on your partner's claim then contact the DWP office dealing with yours to close your claim.
