Benefits Advice Derbyshire was created by DaveWordsworth
Hi All, I have had to give up work due to ill health. I was awarded PIP Standard for daily living and Enhanced for mobility. I have never accessed or applied for any other benefits and I really do not know where to start as I find it all overwhelming. I did go to CAB for advice and all what happended is that a volunteer there advised me to go to the Job Centre and secondly to read the Gov.UK website.

I am located in Derbyshire and I have had no payment of salary since October after I had to give up work. I now have no savings. I own my flat. Any advice or assistance would be appreciated.

Hi Dave

Derbyshire has a very good welfare rights team, you can contact them on 01629 531535 from 11am to 4pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday or email them This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

You can check by putting your information into one of the online benefit calculators.

Even if you can apply for UC you might also want to have a look at whether you can claim New Style ESA, you will need to have at least 50 weeks of NI Contributions in the two Tax Years 2017-18 and 2018-19.

www.gov.uk/guidance/new-style-employment-and-support-allowance

In both cases you will need a Fit Note fro your GP.

Our ESA/UC Claim guide explains the criteria you will need to meet for an award.

If you have any specific questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.
