I won my PIP appeal on the 10th March and was awarded the standard care rate, I had been awarded the standard mobility rate at my assessment and didn't challenge that decision. I have been trying to work out whether I qualify for SDP as I live alone and no-one claims attendance allowance or carers allowance to look after me. I am pretty sure that I do but only got back paid for what I am owed for PIP. I am a bit confused here. Do I qualify and if so do I wait and see or do I have to make a claim? Thanks Rebecca
There are two sets of requirements for the Severe Disability Premium.
First, to be eligible for the Premium, you need to be receiving a qualifying benefit such as the PIP Daily award that you have just received (there are others) and you need to be living alone or considered to be living alone and no one must be receiving Carers Allowance against the qualifying benefit.
Secondly, to be entitled to payment of the Premium you need to be receiving an Income Related benefit such as ESA(IR), Income Support or Pension Credit but not Universal Credit.
You don't mention receiving a benefit that would allow the payment of the Premium!
