Esa and Credit Cards. was created by bernadette Ann
Good Day, Im receiving ESA Benefit, just wondered if it is ok for me to hold a credit card, I wasn't sure if by law I can hold credit card, I own a property , but my any source of income is Esa, I had a lump sum pension payout and my benefit was slightly reduced because of the pension payout, but my current amount of savings is now under £6000, and I have a credit card, I have to send in bank statements for back payment and for my esa to go back to the normal benefit rate.

Hi Ann
Have no fear. There are no issues about you holding one.

hi bis, thank you for your reply, I have more than one credit card because I find it very hard to get bye on esa benefit, I wasn't sure if when I send in my bank statement, the esa dept will question me about having credit cards, and I cannot take the stress of it all. thank you for your last response.

Hi ann
Further to what BIS has said I have a credit card too and am on ESA income related, in fact I also had the card when I was on earlier benefits that ESA replaced. I have never been 'questioned' by the DWP over this and as BIS has said there's no reason why you shouldn't have one (or more than one for that matter) simply because you're on a particular state benefit.
Kind regards
Mr B

Hi, I have another question, I had some capital that is now below the threshold of £6000, how many bank statements do I have to send back to the dwp for my esa to be re-adjusted back to me original benefit award. thank you.
