In Need of your Opinion Please. was created by spanner
Good Morning,

I have been reading the Member Guides, I've found them a great source of information.

I'm seriously considering sending off a PIP Application, could I have some advice, please?
I suffer from Osteoarthritis of Kneck, Shoulders, and knees.
As well as Prescribed Painkillers and Anti Inflammatory Tablets and 3 Monthly Cortisone Injections.
I filled in the example PIP Assessment Form honestly and to my best ability.

Question 1 Preparing Food:
I use an Aid, a Perching Stool. 2 Points.

Question 3 Managing Therapy / Health Condition,
I use an Aid, a Dosette Box for Daily Medicines 2 Points.

Question 4 Washing and Bathing, I need assistance getting in and out of the Bath, I also need help washing my Hair, Back, and Shoulders. 3 Points.

Question 5 Managing Toilet Needs, I need to use a Raised Over Tiolet Seat. 2 Points.

Question 6 Dressing / Undressing I need assistance to Dress / Undress lower Body. 2 Points.

All other Questions do not apply to my Condition, I also understand its not my Condition that is being assessed.

Please feel free to rip my answers to shreds, I know this Application has to be presented in the best possible way.
My Thanks for Reading

Hi Spanner

It's hard for me to comment here. For example - for Q1 Preparing Food. If you have literally written "I use an aid, a perching stool," - you could find that you are awarded no points, because you haven't put those comments in any context. The PIP guide gives examples of the type of sentences you can use to fill out the form and you would be as well to look at them. It is a big guide, but it is well worth having a look and answer as suggested.

Have a look and then come back and ask any questions you have.

Hi BIS,
My scoring on the PIP Self Test was scoring only. I need to elaborate on my answers.
I have problems with putting into words what my reasons are, please bear with me.
When I said I use a Dosette Box for Tablets, this is because I seem to have to check several times if I've actually taken them.
I can now look at the box and see if a particular day's compartment is empty.

Thank you so much for your help, I am working my way through the Member Guides.
I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Thanks for your replies

Hi Spanner

Don't you put yourself down. The PIP form is a challenge for everyone and I mean everyone. Just take one question at a time. Don't assume the person reading it has any understanding of your difficulties or your conditions.
Good luck

Hi Spanner, just to back what BIS says. Several assessors we have encountered have been decidedly dim , so do spell it out, just in the same way you did quoting your own example in full of WHY you need the Dosette box. Never be afraid to repeat yourself from one answer to another.
Best wishes, Denby
