Just need to know if Carers Allowance effects Pension Credit. If one is entitled to Carers allowance and does not claim it as Pension Credit is higher is that acceptable? Patel.
There is not enough information for me to give you a definitive answer but there are basically two main scenarios.
1. The Carer is also the person claiming the Pension Credit and has reached State Retirement Age.
In this case, the State Pension and the Carers Allowance are classed as overlapping benefits and only the one that pays the most usually the Pension is payable, a Carer Element of around £35/week will be added to the Pension Credit.
In this scenario, it may also be possible to receive the Severe Disability Element (£65/week) with the PC.
2. The Carer is not the PC claimant and is under State Pension Age. The CA is payable and will be deducted from the PC £ for £, a Carers Element will be added to the PC.
There are other scenarios.
