Assessor's report from telephone assessment

I've received the copy of my son's telephone assessment.

It makes no mention of his ASD issues regarding any of the descriptors and states he has no issue communicating or prompting to perform any activity.

I recorded the assessment on my phone and I clearly mention all of these issues. Do I state I have a recorded copy of the call for my own use and state this has been ignored.?

You can mention the recording if you wish but the DWP Decision Maker will pay no attention to it.

There is a small window for you to write to the Decision Maker but you will need to be quick.

Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said.

Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.

Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.

Make sure that your letter makes it clear that you are not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration but you reserve the right to do so once a Decision has been made.

Due to the fact I wanted to return my reply ASAP, I had already sent my reply back to DWP in the post yesterday!

Fortunately I had spent time on the forum and read other reports/replies and felt I had a grip of what to aim my reply at. I didn't mention I had a recording of the call just a detailed copy of what was reported.

I did address the individual descriptors in each section which I felt where either mis represented/miss understood or not recorded at all.

I didn't think it could be interpreted as a Mandatory Reconsideration with it being sent back before a decision had be formed. Would you advise contacting DWP or just wait and see?

Hi devito

Did you send it by recorded delivery?

I would contact DWP just to check that they have received your letter.

Lastly, make sure that you make it clear that you are not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration but you reserve the right to do so once a Decision has been made.

We received a follow up telephone conversation after I sent in my further evidence. My sons was awarded an extra 4 points for daily living giving him 11 in total. He was also given 4pts for mobility. The extra points were awarded due to needing help with social engagement from another person. We feel a MR is needed as we feel they haven't taken note of all his inabilities regarding communication. This also I feel should support the need for help with planning and taking a journey with help.
