Broken foot due to bad hip was created by kah22
I am helping a friend fill in a PIP form. I am at the disability section

My friend has an arthritic hip, (along with other conditions) and is scheduled for an urgent hip replacement, she recently stumbled, fell and broke her foot as a result of the way she walks.

Would I be correct in assuming that a broken foot would, in normal circumstances, be considered temporary, an accident, and bad luck for someone with no mobility problems? But as my friend has mobility issues, how should we approach this point. I’m assuming the foot can be used to further indicator their mobility problems bu how and where can this be done?

Hi Kevin

Your friend should certainly mention the broken fit as a result of her arthritis and it should also be made clear that at this time it is impossible to say what the long term damage is going to be (to both hip and foot) - but issues are like to be ongoing. Be very clear on how debilitating her foot and lack of mobility is. Often people over estimate how much they can walk - be clear about how far, how many times they have to stop, how much pain they are in, how much they are incapacitated by their details and what risks there may be to her safety .
