Hi, just a quick couple of questions regarding the UC50, i am filling it out with the guide from this side open which is a great help!
First question is regarding the use of a manual wheel chair. For example i can not wheel my self in a chair due to pain in ONE of my arms, Do they expect you to be able to wheel your self in a chair effectively with one arm? i would assume you would need to use both arms to turn the chair or stop the chair effectively?
The other question is about..
Can you go up or down two steps without help from another person, if there is a rail to hold on to?
Now i can do this however not without a lot of pain, would i score any points if i can do something but it causes me pain to do so?
No, you are not expected to propel a wheelchair with one hand but you will need to explain in detail why the pain that you mention would prevent you doing so with both hands.
With regard to the steps, unlike the other Descriptors for this category, there is no mention of your discomfort being taken into acount, that does not mean that pain does not have to be considered but you will need to explain in much more detail why you are unable to go up two steps, remember, it is only the two so there may be an expectation that you will already be in some pain before starting the climb.
