CB ESA with IR ESA top up and Inheritance

Hi,
I have a query about ESA that I hope someone can help me with.

I am currently in receipt of Contributory ESA topped up with Income Related ESA, but I receive it as an Income Related ESA payment. I am also in the Support Group, and get the Carers & Disability Premiums. My wife is included in the ESA claim, and also receives Carers Allowance for me.

My mother-in-law has just passed away and my wife is set to inherit half of her estate which totals more than the 16k capital limit for Income based benefits.

My question is this;

When I notify the DWP, will they just remove my ESA(I) top up and just pay me ESA(c) OR will this be classed as a "change in circumstances" and re-assess me?

If they do re-assess me will it be for UC or New Style ESA?

And, should I just apply for New Style ESA, as I dont believe that I qualify for Universal Credit.

I'm assuming either way I will have to jump through the usual hoops again.

Thanks,
Loch.

Your entitlement to ESA(IR) will cease if your savings exceed £16,0000 but you will remain entitled to your ESA(CB).

This is not a Change that should require a reassessment of your current award.

Do not make a claim for New Style ESA you will not receive any more money and will lose the option of reclaiming ESA(IR) if your savings and assets drop below the limit at some future date,
