Contribution based ESA change of circumstances

Good afternoon,

I would be most grateful if someone could possibly answer a few questions I have regarding contribution based ESA.

Question 1 – At the beginning of September I changed doctor’s practice. I have written to the ESA address that is on all my letters to let them know this and sent this special recorded delivery. Do I also need to ring them to let them know?

Question 2 – I have just inherited some money. As mentioned I’m on contribution based ESA, not income related ESA. Do I need to let them know about this money that I have inherited?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Mark

Question 1) I would call DWP and ask if they have received your letter confirming change of Dr practice, make sure you ask for the name of the person you speak to on the phone, also add date and time.

Question 2) First of all, if you are only receiving Contribution Based ESA then there are no capital limits and the inheritance will not affect your ESA. As long as you are only receiving Contribution Based ESA and no Income Related payments then your savings and assets will not have any effect on your ESA(CB). You do not need to notify DWP. If you receive any Income Related benefits then you will need to notify the DWP.

Hi Gary,

Thank you for taking the time to answer both of the questions. It is greatly appreciated, I will contact the DWP to check they have received.

Many thanks

Mark
