I act as advocate for my nephew with regard to his benefits. I receive payments on his behalf. I make sure all his bills are paid, mostly its all by direct debit and I transfer money to him twice per week. Nephew has become severely unwell again and I understand that he has been sectioned again - I know he has, but just not the finer details (how long etc).
Am I right in saying that as I know he is in hospital that I should notify the DWP or will the hospital do this?
I would assume his PIP will be stopped, not sure about the ESA, but if they do stop ESA, once my nephew is better, will he have to start his claim over again - thereby, he will be a University Credit Claimant?
ESA and PIP have been paid today, but I believe he has been in hospital around about 12 days so far. Would these payments have been made in arrears? Is my nephew entitled to this money?
The ESA should not be a problem and should remain in payment.
His PIP payments will be suspended if he is in hospital for more than 28 days or any set of periods separated by less than 28 days that total more than 28 days.
Once he is out of hospital notify the DWP again and they will resume his payments.
