PIP Renewal was created by Tinker765
Hello,

I returned my PIP renewal last February, then Covid hit and heard nothing about it. I got a letter saying my pip was extended.

I then got a text in July 24th saying "thanks for sending us your 'how your disability affects you ' form. We may need you to attend a consultation with a health professional before we make our decision.

Then today i got a text saying This is a message from the independent assessment services. As you may be aware, DWP temporarily suspended face to face consultations due to covid. and replaced them with telephone consultations. We have a number of telephone consultation appointments available within the next 7 days please call to book a time.

I just phoned the number, to be told they are fully booked and i will be contacted at some point with my appointment.

Should i expect to be called out of the blue with my assessment?

Hi Tinker765

No, they will not call you out of the blue - they are not allowed to. You will be given another time. It is supposed to be 7 days warning - but some people have found it is less.

Sorry I forgot to ask something. Do i have a right to have this assessment recorded? Worried as it is booked for Tuesday Morning and i totally forgot to request for it to be recorded. I am wondering if i have a right to demand it to be recorded or not?

Hi Tinker765

Assessors don't record PIP assessments. If you want to record - you can - but don't inform the assessor you are doing so - or they will cancel the assessment.

Are you sure? As i phoned them this morning and requested it to be recorded, the lady said that my appointment would have to be cancelled then as they do not have many assessors that have the equipment able to record. She said a new appointment would now be made and i will be sent a copy of the recording of the assessment.

The DWP changed their position last week, IAS is currently able to record their telephone assessments if requested, Capita is still unable to do so.
