Carers Allowance and Severe Disability Premium was created by tadbir
Hello. Very grateful for views on an issue we are facing.
Family situation is me, my wife and brother all live in the same house.
My brother gets PIP enhanced daily living and enhanced mobility, ongoing award. Also ESA support group with disability premium ongoing award.
My wife and I are main carers to my brother.
My wife gets Carers Allowance and works part time.
I work full time.
Now my wife has been offered a higher paid position in the same organisation. This would take her over the earnings limit for CA
So if she loses CA could my brother gain Severe Disability Premium on the basis that no one is receiving CA for him?
From gov.uk it looks like the fact that we are all living in one house would mean he would not get the SDP.
Thanks for reading.

Hi tadbir
The short answer is no, he will not be able to claim SDP.
There are two sets of requirements for the Severe Disability Premium.
First, to be eligible for the Premium, you need to be receiving a qualifying benefit such as the PIP Daily Living award that your brother receives (there are others) you lived alone or were considered to be living alone and no one receives Carers Allowance against your PIP award or as a couple you can qualify if both you and your partner get a qualifying benefit (PIP daily living).
Secondly, to be entitled to payment of the Premium you need to be receiving an Income Related benefit such as ESA(IR), Income Support or Pension Credit but not Universal Credit.
Your brother would fail as he does not live on his own.
