I received a call from this number today which is? a legitimate DWP number? I have extreme anxiety on unsolicited calls and was allocated a dedicated ESA worker whom I have his direct line number for. I have not been contacted during the pandemic because my efforts to contact my worker were refused/unable to get through as they were dealing with the influx of UC claims. The message on the number said that I do not need to call them back and they will contact me if they need to however I'm am distressed over this and it has triggered an extreme anxiety reaction that this may affect my benefit. Has anyone else had this number call them recently and should I call my worker in case? I've had nothing in writing or by text which is the usual way they contact me. Thanks

There is no harm in you contacting your case worker.

Hi
I'm sorry to ask further on this however I tried to call my advisor and cannot get through at all. It is constantly engaged

I have an existing ESA claim.

I also tried the other numbers I have where the appointment line is obviously shut at present and the ESA line states that I should only call if I am expecting a payment and have not received it on the day I'm expecting it.

I waited for an hour on the line each time but couldn't carry on with the call as I have CFS among other physical limitations.

I have not applied for anything or been notified of any review or requirement by my advisor who normally writes and texts in advance of any call.

I'm now distressed this may affect my benefit yet can't think of why they would call me without any notice.

Is this usual? and could it result in my claim being shut?
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on what I could do?

Many thanks in advance

It's not usual but that does not mean that it is unusual either.

I'm afraid all I can do is guess why they are trying to contact you and I am not prepared to do that.

If you phone as soon as the lines open you should be able to get through within a reasonable time.

Just to confirm, the ESA Helpline is 0800 169 0310.

Um sorry to seem dense so I should call the number for new claims? rather than the line for existing claims?
