Attendance Allowance Special Rules was created by PaxyMaxy
Hi, I hope you can advise on this please. I am helping a relative fill out a claim for Attendance Allowance & I think she may qualify under the special rules for people who are terminally ill. The information says it's for people who have a progressive disease and are not expected to live longer than another 6 months. She has advanced ovarian cancer & has been told it is terminal, She has had chemo but was told the cancer will return, however, there are is no timescale.
Under special rules the claim is assessed & payment is processed quickly. However, we don't want to waste time by claiming under special rules to be turned down & then have to claim again. Any advice will be very gratefully received.

Hi PaxyMaxy

Have you asked MacMillan Nurse for help? www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-...cmillan-support-line

To claim under special rules, when you phone up for the form DWP will ask if you are claiming under special rules, then you will be sent a DS1500 for their doctor to complete.

Under special rules there is no assessment for AA, if you were claiming PIP then there would be no assessment for daily living but there would ba an assessment for the mobility component.
