Support Group - ESA was created by KPPurple
Hi
I've been placed in the support group for ESA, however, I had been applying for jobs while I awaited the outcome of the ESA decisio. The job I've been offered is only for a few months and I would still need to learn new accessibility technology while on the job and would still have mobility issues which I would need support with. As it stands I'm awaiting the pre employment checks to come back, but these can take quite a while and so it could be mid- November before I start the role which will only last to Feb 2021. However, my question is can I sign myself off the support group? and if so could I reapply for ESA? Bearing in mind the role is only for a few months and I'd still need support when in the role I don't know whether it would be worth taking it.

You can do Permitted Work providing you work for less than 16 hours a week and do not earn more than £140 every week after tax without closing your ESA claim.

If this work means that you will exceed the hours or earnings limit then you will no longer be entitled to ESA, you will need to inform the DWP that you are closing your claim as you are starting work.

If you are unable to continue to work due to illness or disability and you are within 12 weeks of closing your claim then you should be able to reclaim ESA and receive your current award. If you go beyond the 12 weeks then the only thing that you will be able to claim in the short term would be UC.
