ESA to uc as a couple was created by Gaffer147
Hi everyone,
I receive esa (support group) and pip,I also live with my partner who works part time (12 hours a week)who has been unwell, for a while, and may not be able to work much longer.
Someone had suggested to me,to make a joint claim for uc ,but has also said that I would need afit medical note from my doctor because of my esa.
Please could you tell me weather this is correct, and would this be worth it,financially, as I don't know,if this would make us worse off
Thankyou

I would put your information into one of the online benefit calculators to see if you would be better off claiming UC.

www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators

You may need to provide a Fit Note if you claim UC, your current award should be transferred to UC but this is a manual process and there will be a period of time, it should only be days but could be longer, when UC will have no knowledge of your ESA award and you may be asked to provide a Note to cover this period.
