Hello can anyone advise if you have got PIP for severe asthma, anaphylactic allergies, adrenal gland suppression? Used to have life time lower rate dla and now going to adult team and over to pip but have so far been rejected but scoring 0 which I just do not understand. Thank you for any advice. Will start with reading pip appeal.

Hi Louise

To qualify for PIP, it's not really about the particular conditions that you have, but how they impact on your daily living and/or your mobility as set out in the PIP criteria. So it's quite possible for a claimant to have a severe condition and still not be awarded it .

If you have had an assessment - the first thing you want to do, if you haven't already, is to get hold of the assessment report so that you can understand the reasons for the decision. It will be easy for you to put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration which is the next stage to challenging the decision. You need to ring the DWP that you are going to do this within one month of the decision. You also need to follow this request up in writing.

While you're waiting for the report to come (if you haven't got it) - then look back at our PIP guide and see if you think there is anywhere, where you should have made it clearer about how your condition affects you. It's easy to assume that the Health Professional understands your condition (unfortunately they don't always) and the Decision Maker - who makes the award is not a medical professional at all.

Come back and ask if you need further help.
