Hi Finni

You can legally record a telephone call without informing the other party providing the recording is being made for your personal use. In fact, do not tell the assessor that they are being recorded as they will likely terminate the assessment.

If you are using a smartphone then there are apps that will do this for you.

If you are using a landline and can put the call on speakerphone then you can record it using either a smartphone or some other recording device,

If it's a landline but you cannot put it on speakerphone then you will need a special microphone that attaches to the earpiece.

What you are not allowed to do is record your phone Tribunal as you will be in contempt, the Tribunal will record your hearing, you can ask for a copy of the hearing and a statement of reasons if you are unhappy with the outcome.

I did ask for a copy of the recording and a statement of reasons a while ago, I received both but unable to play the recording as you need specialist software to play the CD.

Hi Gary, did you try taking this up with them? Hardly playing fair for HMCTS [Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunal Service] to send it in an inaccessible format. Intriguing they use such software....Denby

Hi denby

You can download the software to play the disc but unfortunately the company I work for restrict any downloads due to security, the client themselves did not want to take it any further, so there was no need to push, I could always have taken the recording home and played it on my home computer as I have no restrictions.

I did try it on various CD players to no avail, you do need specialist software to play the recording.
