I applied for PIP in July 2020 and had my Call Assessment on 11th November. I had my notes with me and I was abit annoyed she did not give me much time to say what I wanted. She just asked the questions she wanted to ask and did not give me time to tell her more about my condition. I was told i would hear my answer within 6/8 weeks but i had my brown envelope on 28th November. I felt so sick to the stomach to open it but to my surprise I had been awarded Standard rate had 11 points but was a bit miffed how low my points were on the mixing with people also i had 0 points on Mobility as I can drive/plan a journey...of which i did say on my form and the call i have not driven since March as it causes to much Anxiety for me and i cannot plan a unfamiliar Journey i need someone to drive me to a place i have never been before. I am scared to ask for a MR just incase i lose what i have already got.

Hi John

Only you can decide whether you want to put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration. I have only ever heard of two people having their award downgraded at the MR stage. The majority of MRs do not change a claimant's award - indeed only 17% are currently successful. Obviously the 17% who get an increased award and don't have to go for appeal are delighted and will say it was well worth it.

Have a look at our guide on PIP Appeals (which includes Mandatory Reconsiderations). It might help you make up your mind. If you are going to put in for an MR you need to do it within one month of the decision. You should also ring and ask for the assessment report which will give you more details on you were scored.
