Possessions which are excluded from means testing

I'm trying to find a list of items which are excluded from means testing in terms of deprivation of assets. Do you know what is purchases would definitely be considered deliberate deprivation of assets (I have only managed to find cars and jewellery as examples) and what wouldn't?

I don't think a car would necessarily be a problem. Maybe a Ferrari but I think you're allowed to buy a reasonably-priced car. I think you're definitely allowed to own a house without it affecting your benefits (although it could exclude you from legal aid), so if you inherited or won some money and used it to buy a house for you to live in, that should be OK.

Hi, after our experience with this issue many years ago after a modest inheritance, I would get in the habit of stuffing every normal shopping receipt in a bag, and making a file with any significant purchase ones neatly logged. We couldn't prove how much went on just feeding the family, school clothes and kids shoes etc and were disbelieved. You can bin it all later but not bring it back if you didn't keep it...best wishes, Denby
