Hi All,
I have my telephone assessment on Wednesday afternoon and I am so unbelievably anxious about it, I’m so scared that I’m going to mess things up for myself. I’ve been physically sick with worry and I’ve been unable to sleep because of the anxiety.
Can anyone please give me some advice on how your phone assessment went and also what recording app would be best to use, I have an android phone and I also have an iPad which I could use to record on but I’m not sure what app would be the best one?
I’ve read the newly updated members guide to what to expect with a phone assessment and I’ve read all the guides I can.
Is there anything that people have been caught out over? I wish I could cancel the call as I’m so anxious over it but I know it must be done. I feel so low at having to beg for help, it makes me feel subhuman and like I’m unworthy because my health conditions are ones which people don’t recognise often or understand the impact it has on a persons life, I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, an ileostomy, Crohn’s disease, depression and anxiety, endometriosis, carpal tunnel syndrome and restless leg syndrome. I have great anxiety over my ileostomy and suffer greatly because of it and how much it impacted upon my life.
I have all my paperwork ready for when the call comes so I can have it for reference. Am I right in thinking I can request a copy of the assessment once it has been uploaded to the dwp? And am I able to request a break at all as they state the call can last an hour and I struggle to concentrate for long periods of time and also the fatigue wipes me out completely.

Absolutely any help and advice would be most appreciated, my stomach is in knots and I’ve not ate for the past week because I’m so worried about the whole ordeal.

Thank you in advance.
Michelle

Hi Michelle

You seem to have prepared very well. You're right to have all your notes with you, but realistically you won't be able to read through them during the call. Write yourself a bullet list of the things you don't want to forget to say if asked. Don't forget the glass of water so your saliva doesn't dry up.

I can't advise you on an app - hopefully, someone else might.

From what people have said - some of the most common things that people are being caught on is hobbies and the distance they walk.

You can request your report. Some people are being told they can't have them until the decision comes out. Don't let someone say that - if you get that try and insist you are allowed it. if you are still told no, just ring back and ask a different call handler. Reports are supposed to be uploaded 48 hours after an assessment, but we are finding that some are taking a little longer.

I hope it goes well for you tomorrow.
