Pip descriptor decisions was created by KatB
I stated that I need physical help and assistance for some descriptors like "needing assistance to be able to dress and undress lower body" which gives 4 points but my decision said:

"although he reports assistance is required, he reports sufficient strength and range of movement to access stairs and drive a manual car and no restrictions to grip which would suggest that he can manage this task with reaching aids"

I don't own aids and my partner actually does help me putting my socks on and fastening trousers. Are they allowed to decide aids even though I've said I need physical help?

Hi Kat

The assessor is offering an 'opinion' - so yes they are allowed to say so.

On the surface it can appear to be a perfectly reasonable comment, however, driving a car and trying to pull on socks or trousers, or shoes etc, require different hand movements and dexterity particularly when using reaching aids. So if you want to challenge it, then do so. You need to make it clear why you don't use aids.
