transferring from ESA Support to UC LCWRA was created by Chrissiefeeny
Hi all. My son is thinking of going from legacy benefits to UC.I have worked out he would be better off. Just to clear a couple of things up for me please. Would he be better to phone and ask when his next assessment is due for ESA first? His last one was three years ago this month. If he gets a new ESA award before going over to UC,he will be paid more on his LCWRA, than getting an assessment after he is on UC.I hope you understand what I mean. Also, how will he know if he will get the ongoing award,as he fits all three categoies for that?

Hi KatyP

Your son can certainly ring and ask when his next ESA assessment is likely to happen, but from what other members are reporting he's likely to be told they don't know. There is currently a large backlog of cases to deal with, so it's hard for them to give timescales. But, I would ring and check.

I can't answer your second question, because I don't know.

1) Does he get the SDP (Severe Disability Premium)?

2) I'm no expert, but why would he get more for having an assessment on ESA than on UC?

Cheers!
