'Tis a mystery. How much was the random pip payment? That might give us a clue.
You could always by pass us trying to work it out and give them a ring. (0800 121 4433). Be ready with your NI number, bank details and anything else you can think of in order to get past security.

Dave wrote: Hi, my pip is being reviewed. I sent the forms ages ago and last week I got a phone call from pip and they asked me some questions. Today I got a random pip payment, it’s less than I normally get and also my normal payment isn’t until next week. Does anyone no what it will be? Have they down graded me or something? I’ve not received any paperwork. Thanks
It was £155

It's quite common for money to be paid in before a letter arrives. This is worse at the moment because of the difficulties the post office currently has dealing with the post.
Whether this payment is a one-off or a new decision we can't say with any certainty, particularly when the money has arrived a week earlier than normal. Even if you had told us what your normal payment was for the two possible components - we still wouldn't be able to tell you whether this means your award has been decreased, because we have no idea how long this payment covers. The only people who can tell you are the DWP and you really need to give them a ring to get the explanation about what it means.
