Bathing Aid was created by spanner
Good Morning,
Osteoarthritis of neck, shoulders, and knees.
Occupational Health kindly some home aids, my Wife was helping me in and out of our unadapted bath.
I was given a bath board after Occ. Health assessment, When using the board my Wife still helps me in and out of our bath.
I sit sideways on the board, Wife then helps by lifting my legs into the water, and reverses the procedure getting out.
How would that score on a PIP Application?
Many thanks.

Hi spanner,

I am sorry to hear that you have difficulties with mobility. Hopefully the home aids are make life easier for you.
Someone who needs assistance to get in/out of bath or shower should get 3 points under descriptor 4e. If you are writing a claim form and/or going to assessment, it is important to stress that you can not get in/out unaided, and explain the help your wife still has to give you, despite having the bath board.

The regulations are very clear - DWP must award the descriptor activity that has the most points. They might decide to give 2 points in the basis of aid/appliance (4b). This is incorrect - they would have to award 4e as this is 3 points instead of 2 points.

The Members Guides give lots of further information, as well as a 'self PIP test' which can indicate if you are eligible to claim PIP.

Hope this helps.

Hi Debbie,

You can find the PIP law here

www.legislation.gov.uk/ukdsi/2013/9780111532072/contents

The activities, the various things you can score points on, and the descriptors, which say what level of difficulty equates to points, are in schedule 1 near the bottom. There are also useful definitions there telling you what particular words, e.g. prompting, mean in the official PIP world.

I hope this helps,
Catherine

Hi catherine
thanks for that link
is there anywhere on it what states so i can quote it to dwp that in a activity they give the most points. i thought this was the case but when i recieved my award 3 yrs ago i recieved standard when i thought i would be entitled to enhanced.
it was my first time claiming wasnt unfortunately on this site then and to be honest just grateful id not got to fight for an award
my main reason for my award was i need supervision mainly for balance problems . They pay my partner who lives with me for caring and basically supervising me
told them i have grab rail in toilet perching stool in kitchen and mad as this sounds front fastening bra which they say is an aid to help me get dressed!!!
the only room where i have no aid is bathroom told them partner assists me in and out of bath so they gave me 3 points but just two for aids when surely i should have got more points for supervision?
my award is due to end september although they have given me extension but i want to get it right in case i have to challenge it next time

Hi debbie,

Planning ahead sounds good. Can I suggest that you take some time to read our PIP guide
PIP resources

That is full of useful information and tips. It takes the law which is the link I put in the post above and explains it in useful ways, and has all sorts of useful pointers. Do come back to us if it does not answer all your questions.

When you are completing the form you are wise to think ahead about possible challenges.

Happy reading :P
