ESA renewal or UC was created by Philip B
I have a dilemma . My ESA 3 year renewal (support group) was due in July last year. We are planning on moving to a bungalow once lock-down ends. If my ESA renewal comes before we move should I apply for voluntary UC instead. I am worried if I apply for ESA and then when I notify the DWP of change of address, they immediately send me a UC application form.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can advise me.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Philip B
A change of address does not automatically trigger an application for UC. At the moment we have no idea when ESA renewals are going to come through. I would wait and see.

Hi Philip B,
If you are staying within the same Local Authority area, that shouldn't generate a need to claim UC. As BIS said, I would wait until you know what's happening with ESA. Unlike PIP which tends to have an end date, ESA continues, so there shouldn't be a problem as to when your actual renewal is.
If you have access to a local advice centre the advisor can do calculations to see what amount you could receive under UC. Unless you have to move onto UC, think very carefully about this. You won't be able to go back onto ESA once you go onto UC. If you don't need to do anything at present, don't upset the apple cart!
Hope this helps.
