Esa support group, moving home. What can I expect? was created by seasicksteve68
Hi. I am currently receiving Esa in the support group. I am due to move home for apr1 2021. I am getting quite anxious that my change in circumstances will force me on to UC, and I'm very fearful of going 5 weeks without any money. I am currently receiving housing benefit in one borough, but will be moving to neighboring borough, but will NOT be making a claim for housing benefit in my new home, although I may need some help with council tax. Does anyone have experience of this situation, or, indeed know the procedure I can expect to go through?? Also does anyone have thoughts on when I should " poke the bear" and n notify them of the change. As I mentioned I'm hoping to move for the first of April. Thank you all for being here.....

Hi seasicksteve68
You do not say which ESA you are receiving IR or CB ESA, do you receive PIP?
If you are not going to apply for HB then moving should not force you on to UC.
Council Tax Support Scheme (CTRS) does not fall under UC so claiming CTRS will not force you to apply for UC, you will have to let your new LA that you are only claiming CTRS and not HB element, most LA you can apply on line if you have internet access.
In regards to notifying ESA about a change of address, you need to do this within one month of moving but this can be extended with good cause, don't forget to notify HMRC.
